Wilderness, and the protection of wild lands for people and animals
and for generations to come is, after all, about people. The
wilderness movement began with the voices of people speaking out for
the preservation of treasured places. The environmental movement grew
out of the successful grassroots organizing of the wilderness
movement. And in a democracy, where public opinion is taken into
account in a deliberative and open process, peoples’ voices matter
very much.
